As you can see in the chart above, semaglutide injections are very, very effective. And fast acting as well.
In the concisely titled, “Effect of Subcutaneous Semaglutide vs Placebo as an Adjunct to Intensive Behavioral Therapy on Body Weight in Adults With Overweight or Obesity” study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2021 (full study here), more than 50% of participants lost over 15% of their body weight and maintained that weight loss at 68 weeks.
Even more striking is how quickly initial weight loss was on average with average body weight percentage losses of 4% after one month, nearly 8 percent at two months, 10%ish after 3 months and around 12% after month 4.
Another interesting result of the survey can be found in participant numbers. Despite there being many known, but typically minor side effects to semaglutide treatment, over 91% of participants completed the full study. This was only about 1% less than the placebo group, essentially demonstrating that participants who received the medication were no less likely to stop using it than those who were injecting water.
A final, interesting result of the study is the sheer magnitude of success for all participants. 88.6% of all semaglutide users lost at least 5% of their body weight by trial’s end while slightly less than 50% of the placebo group managed to do this, despite being on the same diet and exercise regime.
The 10% grouping is even more stark. Barely a quarter of placebo takers registered a 10% body weight loss after 68 weeks while over 70% of semaglutide users succeeded.
And 15% body weight loss, which only a sixth of placebo takers achieved, was an attainable level for almost 60% of semaglutide users.
It is hard to find a more tolerated, successful treatment than this.
